Worms worms and more worms

As you are aware, we are looking at "change." Room 6 (with room 5) have been studying life cycles. We have looked at the human life cycle and now we are on to worms. We have made a worm farm. This allowed the children the opportunity to observe worms up close AND has also lead us in another topic to do with change-recycling! Stay tuned for regular updates.

Latest update

Hi everybody! It was great to see so many parents, friends and grandparents at assembly on Friday. Didn't room 6 do very well? As I'm sure you are all aware, we are up to our next class reward which will be a treasure hunt followed by a shared afternoon tea. This will take place on Monday (11/4/11) from 2-3pm. This has changed from the original idea (after school) to facilitate those children who will need to go home on the school bus. If you are free, please bring a plate and join our celebrations. I'm looking forward to seeing you then.
I have enclosed a photo of room 6 receiving their personalised book marks. My sister in Ireland made one for each child. I hope these will be put to GREAT use over the coming months and even years!

Dress up time

Room 6 enjoyed some dress up time this week!
Apart from that...
We also did lots of other activities. On Wednesday we had a fantastic session in the pool with Ricardo. He will return this Tuesday for a follow up.
We have also (after lots of hard work and effort) reached our FIRST class reward. On Friday we are going to make and EAT yummy fruit kebabs. It would be great if you could pack an extra piece of fruit for us to share. I will provide everything else. Have a great week. I hope to see lots of you at our second Pahoia triathlon tomorrow!

"Stars" in the making!

Hi everyone! I would like to take the opportunity to thank the parents who came to our "meet the teacher evening". It was a great way to start the year.I have taken on board your comments and will act upon these promptly.
This week has been another brilliantly busy one. I feel as though our reading programme is really starting to flow nicely. One of my goals is to try and introduce different types of text to the children. This week, the giraffes read a play. To introduce the concept of reading for an audience, they presented this to Rooms 7 & 8. Today, I took Tyler and Liam (the giraffes) into the Green Room to record their presentation. I have uploaded it for you all to see. Enjoy our week 3 Room 6 stars!

Isa the puppy comes for a visit

Anica brought her lovely puppy into our classroom. We enjoyed meeting her and hearing about all that she needs. She is very playful. We thought of lots of describing words that we can use when we are writing. Thanks to Anica's wonderful Mum for giving of her time!

First two days!

Hello everyone, what a fantastic start! I know I have enjoyed the first two days and from listening to the children, it would appear that everyone is settling well and relaxing into Room 6 routines. This week we have spent quite some time discussing how important it is that we work as a team. We have talked about the fact that everyone is important. As a class, we completed a class quilt which is now displayed at the back of the classroom in the reading area. Please come in and check it out. Next week swimming begins. As you will have read in the letter sent home, this is on Tuesdays and Fridays with an optional lunchtime swim on a Wednesday. Also from next week, all children MUST have a hat. If they do not they will be asked to play under the shade cloth. Once again, welcome to Room 6 and I look forward to catching up with you all. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you are concerned in any way. I also love to hear about happy or positive things that occur. Even very simple things can have a huge impact and as we are a learning community it is great to share this with each other. Have a great weekend.

Dear parents

Dear parents, I hope you have all had an awesome summer (so far). I have had a great time preparing Room 6 for the awesome year ahead. I am so looking forward to seeing you and getting started. To let you know what's happening in Term 1....
Our theme is "change." In Room 6, to begin with, we are looking at the days of the week, months of the year and seasons. In particular, we will investigate how change impacts our daily lives. The main curriculum focus will be on English, Science and Art. However, it is my intention to incorporate our theme into all areas of learning.
In Maths, the focus for term 1 is geometry and measurement. For writing, it is recount which lends itself well to recounting all the things everyone has been up to over the holiday period. In regards to writing genre, I have put up some posters to explain each one. Please have a look so that you can encourage your child to keep writing at home.
That's probably enough for now. May I just take this opportunity to tell you what a privilege it is for me to be the teacher in Room 6. I am committed to doing my very best and look forward to working in partnership with you during which I know will be a very successful year for everyone. See you next week, Corrinne
